Something Is Off With This Lexus LX But I Can’t Put My Finger On It

Aug 06, 2023

Is that the face of an FJ Cruiser on a 100-Series body?

The Lexus LX is widely known as the premium twin of the Land Cruiser but some people apparently wish their truck looked different as proven by this face-swapped SUV. The owner says they took inspiration from the Land Cruiser heritage, but the end result looks less inspired, to these eyes at least.

The listing went up on Facebook Marketplace but has since disappeared. The description said that this is a 2005 Lexus LX 470 with 115,600 miles (186,040 km) on the odometer featuring a "retro conversion". The twin headlights of the second-gen LX got replaced by round units, integrated within the grille for an FJ Cruiser look. The headlight change required tweaking on the bonnet and front fenders, but the rest of the bodywork appears to be unaltered. After all, the J100 generation of the Lexus LX and the Toyota Land Cruiser shared the vast majority of their body panels.

The owner states that the model hasn't been involved in accidents but it recently got a fresh paint job. The body doesn't have any rust although the listing admits there is some rust underneath. In this model year, the 4.7-liter V8 produced 275 hp (205 kW / 279 PS) sending power to all four wheels through a five-speed auto.

Inside the "rare grey interior" is looking better than expected for its age, while the wood-decorated center console is dominated by a massive vertically-oriented touchscreen display. Interestingly the steering wheel has a Toyota badge in order to match the exterior, and even the floor mats have "Land Cruiser" lettering.

The weird Toyota LX was listed for $13,999 but whether that's worth looking at that face every day, it's up to you to decide.
